Dermacycling
What is Dermacycling?
Dermacycling is the exciting new skin care technology featured as the Hollywood Peel on Oprah and Good Morning America. Dermacycling is based on nano technology and a new understanding of how the body's reaction to trauma can rejuvenate our skin.
A few years ago, micron sized emulsions were introduced that could penetrate the skin barrier and deliver active ingredients directly to living skin cells (1 micron = 1,000 nanometers). Nano technology can literally feed the skin cells transdermally with nutrients, moisture, and most importantly, with oxygen. Skin care products using nano technology do not interfere with the natural function of the skin and do not negatively affect the release of sebum, sweat, or waste removal the way traditional skin care products can.
The first principle of Dermacycling is a partnership between traumatizing and nourishing the skin. Traumatizing the skin with light, lasers, abrasives, acids, or enzymes triggers the formation of collagen and elastin, which are designed to support and strengthen the skin. Collagen and elastin also make the skin smooth and soft. However, excess or continuous trauma cause the skin to thicken and harden, which can permanently damage the skin. Optimal results have been produced by four weeks of beneficial trauma followed by four weeks of healing, oxygenating treatments. Throughout the eight week period, skin care products using nano technology are used to nourish new skin cells and amplify the benefits of the traumatizing treatments. This cycle of trauma and nourishment can be repeated indefinitely.
The second principle of Dermacycling is balancing the activity of sebaceous (oil) glands in the skin. Sebaceous glands produce sebum, which coats our skin to retain moisture and to fight bacteria and fungus. Depending on the amount of oil or moisture on the skin, the glands will start or stop producing sebum. Skin care products designed for dry skin contain oils that moisten your skin temporarily but those oils make the sebaceous glands reduce sebum production. This causes your skin to become even drier. Likewise, skin care products designed for oily skin strip off oils, which makes the sebaceous glands increase sebum production. This causes your skin to become even oilier. Stimulating your sebaceous glands to constantly underproduce or overproduce sebum prematurely ages your skin. Dermacycling treatments and products do not stimulate the sebaceous glands. Instead, they balance the formation of sebum and allow the sebaceous glands to work the way that nature intended.
The third principle of Dermacycling is to both moisturize and oxygenate your skin. You should only use a moisturizer during the day to protect, nourish, and moisturize the skin. At night, the sebaceous glands should be balanced for proper sebum production and the skin should be allowed to breathe. Oxygenating the skin cells is by far the most important factor in producing healthy skin.
How are the Dermacycling principles applied?
Dermacycling is divided into two cycles...
- The 'Macrocycle' is weekly treatments for eight weeks performed by your skin care nurse. The first four weeks are traumatizing treatments to stimulate collagen and elastin while the last four weeks are Triple Treatment Oxygen facials to heal and nourish the skin.
- The 'Microcycle' is performed daily by the client at home with nano technology products that nourish and oxygenate skin cells, balance sebum production, and amplify the benefits of the Macrocycle treatments.
How many cycles do you need?
You will experience an immediate reduction in fine lines and wrinkles and a single cycle will increase your collagen and elastin. The number or frequency of cycles depends on the initial condition of your skin and the desired amount of improvement. Your skin care nurse will help you determine the ideal schedule for maintenance cycles that will keep you looking your best.
The Macrocycling traumatizing treatment by itself can also be used like a chemical peel for monthly maintenance or to polish your appearance for a special occasion.
Things you should know.
If you have been using moisturizers 24 hours a day, you may experience dry skin for the first 30-90 days of the Microcycle regimen. This is normal and is necessary to restart your sebaceous glands. You will experience a gradual clearing and your skin will become much smoother and softer.
How much time is required?
Each Macrocycling treatment in our office lasts 45 minutes. The Microcycling products become part of your normal morning and evening skin care regimen.
How much does it cost?
The eight week Dermacycling package, including all in-office Macrocycle treatments and all home care Microcycle products, is $999. Single Macrocycle treatments are $125 and an eight week supply of Microcycle products is $225.
