IPL Photorejuvenation
What is IPL Photorejuvenation?
Photorejuvenation, often called a photofacial, uses a beam of non-laser light energy to combat the effects of sun damage, Rosacea, and aging with no downtime. A series of 30-minute photorejuvenation treatments can be performed on the face, neck, chest, and hands.
During the treatment, you will be asked to put on protective eyewear. A layer of chilled gel is applied to the area to cool the skin and allow the light to more easily penetrate the skin's surface. The IPL handpiece is placed against the skin and a short pulse of light is released. The handpiece is moved to the neighbouring area and the process is repeated until the entire area has been treated. Most clients describe the sensation of the pulses as a small, relatively painless snap. The gel is removed and the area is moisturized to complete the treatment.
What are the benefits of IPL Photorejuvenation?
An IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) system delivers precise amounts of light energy through your skin's surface to stimulate the production of collagen. As the new collagen forms, it softens your appearance, tightens sagging skin, and decreases fine lines and wrinkles.
The light energy targets pigmentation and tiny surface veins to dramatically improve skin tone and reduce redness. The flushing and redness of Rosacea can be reduced 80-90%.
What is an IPL?
An IPL system generates a series of high energy light flashes. It differs from a laser by producing light at more than one frequency and emitting that light in a less focused beam. This allows an IPL to perform treatments requiring less power than a laser more quickly, with greater comfort, and with less risk of minor burns.
We use the Active Crystal 512, a 420-1100nm IPL. This proven device is both comfortable and effective. View Active Crystal 512 IPL system
What results can you expect?
After only one treatment, your skin will have a more even tone with a smoother look and feel. Sunspots will fade, pore sizes will shrink, and fine lines and wrinkles will decrease in size. These improvements will steadily increase with each treatment. Patients with Rosacea will see a progressive decrease in redness with each treatment.
How many treatments do you need?
Depending on the area treated and the degree of damage, a series of three to five sessions at three week intervals is usually required to achieve optimal results. After your initial series, you could require a follow-up treatment in 2 or more years. Our nurses will educate you in ways of caring for your skin to diminish the need for future treatments.
Things you should know.
Side effects are rare and limited to the treatment sites. They include the possibility of mild burns or blistering, discomfort, scabbing, bruising, pigmentation changes, scarring, and infection.
IPL Photorejuvenation should not be performed for:
- Patients with connective tissue disease or auto-immune disorders.
- Women who are pregnant.
- People with recently sun tanned skin or who may receive excess sun exposure during the three weeks following treatment.
- Patients taking Accutane now or during the past six months.
IPL Photorejuvenation will remove acquired freckling but genetic freckles usually return after treatment because your body naturally continues to replace the cells that created that type of freckle.
