What Is Laser Brown Spot Removal?

What You Should Know

Laser brown spot removal doesn’t reduce the risks of new brown spots; it only takes care of the current ones. The melanocytes can reproduce new brown spots due to sun exposure, hormone changes and medications, such as antibiotics. It is important to eliminate sun exposure after treatment and use a broad spectrum SPF 30 or higher sunscreen daily.

While the laser can remove freckling, if your freckles are genetic, they are more likely to return after the treatment due to your genetic makeup.

Some of the potential side effects of the treatment in addition to the minor burn include blistering, bruising, scarring, infection, pigmentation changes and discomfort, though these side effects are rare.

How Long Does It Take?

Your laser brown spot removal should take about 15 to 30 minutes, though a larger number of brown spots will require more time.

The cost of these treatments is $50 for every 5 minutes of treatment. A 5-minute session typically eliminates a brown spot area of about 18 millimeters. Darker spots will require more laser pulses than lighter spots, increasing the cost.
